Santos Laguna are stepping up preparations for their first home game of the Apertura 2026. The Warriors, who lost 0-2 to Rayados in the opening matchday, aim to secure their first three points this Saturday at 9:00 PM at Estadio Corona against Atlas.
What happened in training?
The albiverde squad trained on Tuesday at Territorio Santos Modelo (TSM) under Renato Paiva’s guidance. The session mixed physical and technical drills, focusing on fixing errors from the Monterrey setback. The morning routine started in the gym with muscle-strengthening exercises, then moved to the pitch for possession drills, small-sided games, and offensive zone work.
The team is still fine-tuning after the loss that left Santos Laguna 11th in the standings with 0 points, 0 wins, 0 draws, and 1 loss. Santos has scored 2 goals and conceded 3, with a -1 goal difference, and sits 6 points behind league leaders Cruz Azul.
Team news and medical update
Renato Paiva provided a medical report with four players in observation. Paraguayan midfielder Diego González worked separately due to muscle discomfort, though the technical staff remains hopeful he’ll recover in time. Javier Güemez has fully rejoined the group after injury, while Kevin Palacios continues rehabilitation.
The Portuguese manager also included Argentine youth player Tomás Abdelnur, from the U-21 side, in first-team training. The youngster was closely monitored by the coaching staff during the session.
Santos Laguna in national team call-ups
Four Santos Laguna academy players received national team call-ups. Tahiel Jiménez is part of Mexico’s U-23 squad for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. Juan Carlos Echilvestre, Luis Ángel Gómez, and Sahiel Cedillo are with the U-20 team aiming for a spot at the World Cup and Olympics in the Concacaf Championship.
The Warriors continue morning training from Wednesday to Friday at TSM to fine-tune tactics ahead of the Atlas clash. The team, which already has 0 points in the Apertura 2026, desperately needs its first win to climb the table.
